This point was extremely exiciting as I LOVE GLITTER. The Gold glitter addition into the spaces Jazzed up the mask and gave out a more Venetian appeal.
The important elements of Venetian Masks are usually the GLITTER, gems, feathers, bells caps etc.
This part involves the use of Long ribbons and a net fabric to design the cap of Jolly. It was a great challenge glueing it onto the mask. I initially experimented by trying to sew the fabric directly onto my piece, but since the paper along with the cardboard produced a thick layer, this option turned out extremely hard and hence I opted the good 'ol glue-on method!
Colourful or netted Fabrics are usually sewed onto the Venetian masks wherever required
This is when I started drafting designs and details around the facial features to enhance the appeal of the mask.
The Main Idea, was to use 3D Gold Paint and Glitter Glue as observed in figures 2 & 3. The spaces were later filled with Glitter glue to complete the look. Traditional Venetian masks are usually designed with Gold Leaves and Precious jewels or gemstones, outlined with sequences.
Since, the mask I chose was Jolly, the ends of the cap usually compose bells or threads for the Jingle, as it was the trademark style of the respective character.
Two Days later, after the Newspaper Mache was completely dry, I layered with clear white paper both hroizontally and vertically, once again. This not only makes the model extra firmer, but also provides a sort of clear canvas for easy designing. Once this process was complete, I allowed it to dry for two more days, ultimately resulting in an extremely stron and firm mask structure which was the ready to design.
I then, initally placed tape over the features, to outline them, carefully. After this, I covered the mask entirely with tape to make it firmer.
I then added, some cotton balls below the mask, and pasted it on a carboard cutout.
After the above, I continued the mask with paper mache. Elmers Wood glue with some water mixed throughly to create a fine paste along with newspaper strips were used for the Mache process.
The paper mache-ing was carried out in the following process,
First: I dipped each strip of paper in the glue and layed it out horizontally over the mask and eventually covered the mask entirely. It was left to dry up for a good 2hours and I further continued with the next 2 layers.
I repeated the same procedure as step one with the paper strips but only this time, layed then vertically to cover the entire mask. This was also left to dry for another 2 hours.
The first procedure was repeated again, layed out horizontally over the entire mask. The mask was then left to dry for a day, inorder to make it as firm and dry as possible.
This is a sketch of my second body of work. Its a rough draft of a ""Venetian Mask". I chose this to be my 2nd body of work, as venetian masks play a significant role in the "The Venetianian Carnival of Venice" annually. The Draft depicts a "Ventian Jolly (Female version of Joker).
This Piece displays my final Piece of Work. The picture represents the famous monuments of India such as: The India Gate, Qutub Minar, Taj Mahal and the Lotus temple, all placed cyclically over The "Chakra", The main and central element of the Indian Flag.
In terms of my time, I wanted to express the fact that India is commonly labeled as the Country with "Unity in diversity" and I wanted to strongly convey this Mesaage Via this piece.
The India Gate is a monument specially credited for its Strong implementation of "Unity". This structure was mainly build To pay respects to the soldiers who faught for the Independence of India from the British. The structure is believed to be build from the The riffles of the guns used by the soldiers and the remenants of their helmet.
The Qutub Minar: A structure that expesses Islamic culture to its best with the incorporation of Arabic inscriptions and Islamic Patterns.
The Taj Mahal: Most Prestigious Structures in India and no other Architecture in India shouts Unity better than this due to its incorporation of Persian, Turkish, Hindu and Arabic patterns and inscriptions though its believed to be a Muslim Structure.
Finally, The Lotus Temple: Temple for the bahai's. To the Baha's their god was a Single God formed by the elements of all relegions mainly: Hindu, Muslim and Christian.
Through, This piece I wanted to convey although India is designated to be a large country in terms of poppulation, It doesn't fall back in terms of UNITY.
